Deal and Sandwich accommodation – it’s here – we have it!

Deal lies on the English Channel eight miles north-east of Dover and eight miles south of Ramsgate. The coast of France is approximately twenty-five miles from the town, and is visible on clear days. Closely associated with Deal is the large mainly residential parish of Walmer where Julius Caesar first arrived in Britain. Deal was named as a "limb" of the Cinque Ports in 1278 and, thanks to its position on "The Downs" safe anchorage, the town was once the busiest port in England.

Today, the quiet seaside resort offers much to enjoy. Its finest building is the Tudor Deal Castle, commissioned by King Henry VIII and designed with an attractive rose floor plan. Deal has Kent's only remaining public pier, an indoor swimming pool, a night club, plenty of places to wine and dine and, on a fine day, a clear view of the French coast - less than 25 miles away. Deal pier was named 'Pier of the Year 2008', (before the new pier head restaurant was completed). It also came first in the Telegraph's '10 top spots to lay your beach towel'. Deal was praised for being 'the genuine Georgian article, with blustery promenade and winding streets.'

There's plenty to do for visitors of all ages. The town centre is pedestrianized and most of the town is on the flat making it ideal for disabled visitors.

Sandwich is a historic town and civil parish on the River Stour in the Non-metropolitan district of Dover, within the county of Kent, south-east England. The name of the town is, most likely, Saxon in origin, approximately meaning sandy place, or the place on the sand. The word sandwich as an item of food came into being centuries later. In medieval times and before, Sandwich was a main Kent and UK port, it was and still is, a principal Cinque Port. Before the River Stour silted up, the river was wide and deep enough for great sailing ships. Today, the ships have been replaced by smaller craft, residential and visitors moorings, but the many ancient buildings make Sandwich one of the best preserved medieval towns in England. Although it is now two miles from the sea, its historic centre has been preserved. Sandwich Bay is home to nature reserves and two world-class golf courses, Royal St George's and Prince's. The town is also home to educational and cultural events.
